☛ Who’s got it tougher, writers or artists?

Although we are now used to thinking about this as the age of the star writer, Ian Goodwillie argues that the laws of supply and demand make it harder to break into comics as an aspiring writer than for artists:

I’m not saying trying to be an artist in the comic book industry is easy. You still have hustle like crazy, hone your talent, and draw, draw, draw. Almost all the points above, or at least a version of them, also apply to artists. The industry has just created more avenues to find and develop artists than it has writers.

Trying to be a comic book writer is definitely a lot like banging your head against a brick wall. You can eventually break through the barrier if you with unwavering strength of will and persistence. Assuming you don’t drive yourself crazy. Or hurt your brain.
